Household planning calculators
for the families behind the return

Fourteen calculators for the household questions that sit around a tax return: HSA contributions up to $8,7502026 · IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-19 for family coverage, budgets, net worth, savings rate, inflation and college savings.

Overview

Not every client question is about tax or investments. Families ask whether a second income is worth the childcare, how much to keep in savings, and what college will cost. Firms that answer those questions stay the first call when the bigger ones come.

This shelf mixes health-account tools (where tax and planning meet) with budgeting and planning concepts that work on any advisory or tax firm site.

Small questions, long relationships

Household calculators rarely produce an immediate engagement. They do keep a firm's site useful between tax seasons and give newsletter content a reason to link back.

The HSA tools are the exception: they connect directly to tax savings and open enrollment, and they are popular with both CPA firms and advisers.

Calendar

When clients reach for household planning calculators

Each calculator page names the month its question peaks. Plan content, emails and homepage features around these.

HSA tools peak during open enrollment in November and at year-end funding; budget and net worth tools in January; college savings in August and at birthdays.

FAQ

Household planning calculators: common questions

Showing 8 of 8
  • Which plan includes the household calculators?

The budgeting, net worth, savings and planning-concept tools are on every plan, including free Practitioner. The three HSA calculators are the exception: they need Network. See pricing.

  • Do the HSA calculators use 2026 limits?

Yes: $4,4002026 · IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-19 for self-only coverage, $8,7502026 · IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-19 for family coverage and a $1,0002026 · IRS Publication 969 catch-up at 55, with sources on the figures page.

  • Are household calculators worth adding for a tax-only practice?

A few are. The HSA, hourly-to-salary and should-my-spouse-work calculators all have a tax angle. Pure budgeting tools matter more to planners.

  • Can clients use these without giving their contact details?

Yes. Lead capture is optional and off by default. Clients can run any calculator anonymously and choose to send the result to you.

  • Is the life expectancy calculator medical advice?

No. It gives an actuarial-style estimate from a few lifestyle inputs to support planning horizons. It is not a medical assessment.

  • Do the planning concept calculators teach the idea as well?

Yes. Each has a Definitions block in plain English, and our glossary covers terms like the rule of 72 and real return.

  • Can we use household calculators in a client newsletter?

Yes. Link to the calculator page on your site from the newsletter. A January email linking the budget and net worth calculators is a common start to the year.

  • Do they work on mobile?

Yes. The calculators are responsive and touch-friendly, which matters because most household questions are asked on a phone.
